Blog 8

Sonia Flores discusses "Gun Control" in her blog and I must say that I agree with her views on the controversial issue. She discusses how the 2nd amendment does not pertain to today's society and technology. The 2nd amendment was put in place when it took forever to load a gun. I understand that people want to ensure their safety and I do agree that having a gun in your home to protect yourself from a potential intruder is a valid reason to have one. But, I do not believe that people should be able to just walk around with one, especially on a college campus. Flores discusses how many college students do not feel safe knowing that their campus allows open carry, I am one of those students. All we need is for two college students arguing over something stupid and then one of them pull out their gun and end up shooting the other. I do not believe that getting rid of guns completely is something we should do but I do believe that gun laws should definitely be stricter now considering all of the tragic events that have been happening in recent years. People are getting crazier while guns are getting easier to get ahold of. The Constitution needs a serious update to catch up with the times.

Blog 7

I know that almost (if not all) of my blog posts are about Trump and his administration but if I'm being honest it's hard to want to write about anything else when endless amount of content over his actions have popped up. I was reading a post on "Washington Monthly" by Nancy LeTourneau and she provided quotes from another article "The education of Donald Trump" written by Josh Dawsey, discussing the kind of president Donald Trump is. Dawsey even provided quotes from one of Trumps senior administration officials. The quote that really made me giggle over the ridiculousness of it was "You go in and tell him the pros and cons, and what the media coverage is going to be like.” the senior administration official was discussing how to present a policy or strategy to Trump and what will win him over. The previous quote shines light on the fact that Donald Trump is more concerned with the amount of attention he will get for doing a certain thing rather than what will benefit the country as a whole. I do not think that he understands the importance of the presidency, but I mean when you elect someone with no political background what can you expect for him to know what all it entails. He is the most egocentric man and unfortunately he is also our president.

Colleague's Blog

Jennifer Torres wrote a blog post discussing how Donald Trump has been doing as our president and she has made some valid points while discussing his progress thus far. Torres titled her blog "Having Trouble Making America Great Again Trump?" and I thought it was extremely clever. Trump made so many promises while campaigning and I honestly think he lacks the knowledge to realize the amount of effort being president actually takes. I feel as if he took his campaign as a way to prove that he could be even more powerful than he already was, his intentions to me didn't seem to be beneficial to the nation but more of a way to benefit himself. Trump promised to change the healthcare act that Obama set in place and he has yet to do so because he cannot come up with a better one himself. Many of his supporters wanted him because of that promise, I wonder if they now realize that he is not going to be able to keep up with most of the things he said. Torres gracefully discussed Trump in a way they pointed out his flaws without attacking him and I admire her for that. Just like Torres I do hope that Trump proves me wrong and does great things for our country, but unfortunately as of now I cannot see that happening.

The Defunding of Planned Parenthood (Blog 5)

"The Senate voted Thursday to let states block federal family planning money from going to Planned Parenthood affiliates and other abortion providers." (CBS News). The previous quote provides proof to the me that many news sources and people aren't looking at the bigger picture of how this could really effect millions of peoples lives. Planned Parenthood not only deals with abortions but also low-cost tests and treatments for STDs, breast exams, pap tests, and even provide educational information to help people learn more about sexual reproduction. The saddest part of it all is that most people don't know that Planned Parenthood helps not only women but men and teens as well. If Republicans would just look at the bigger picture rather than being solely concerned about abortions then they would see that Planned Parenthood is there to help everyone and not just there to "kill babies". Mike Pence broke the tie in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood and many other healthcare centers that provide affordable healthcare to a large number of people. Let me say it louder for all of the people in the back, Mike Pence, A MAN, has broke the tie in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions for WOMEN (doesn't it make sense that they should be allowed to decide what happens to THEIR OWN BODIES?). That seems to be the biggest problem with not only our national government but also society, we all think that we should have control over every single thing that people are allowed to do whether it'll effect us or not. If we really feel the need to determine everyones fate then we need to at least have people that have been through the same thing determine what's best and not someone who has absolutely no idea what it's like.

https://thinkprogress.org/gop-congressman-doesnt-want-men-to-pay-for-prenatal-care-fa2025ece774#.ttd4m0fbm

This blog on "Think Progress" by Laurel Raymond discusses how Rep. John Shimkus argues in defense for Republicans that oppose Obamacare. His main argument is that men shouldn't have to pay for women's maternity services, such as pre-natal care. Raymond provides us with the information that before Obamacare, women had to pay more money than men for the same health coverage. She also makes a valid argument that although they are maternity services, men partake in getting women pregnant, so it is only fair that they should have to help women cover any maternity costs. It takes two to create a human being so it should also take two to keep the mother and child healthy. I am honestly not shocked at all to hear someone from the Republican party try to argue that men should not have to pay for women to have low-costing maternity services. I'm almost 100% positive that if the roles were switched and men were the one's that got pregnant they would be all for women helping with the costs of pregnancy. For crying out loud a woman cannot get pregnant on their own, so if maternity services are such a problem for men then the one's that are bitching about it better not be having sex. It is clear that Raymond is trying to reach out to those in support of shutting down Trumpcare. Raymond provides quotes from Shimkus during a hearing, so that alone shows that the information she has provided us with is credible.

Blog 3

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-ryan-owens-seal-raid_us_58b58852e4b0780bac2d58c6?

In this editorial article, Igor Bobic ,associate politics editor for the Huffington Post, discusses how President Trump blames the death of Navy SEAL, William "Ryan" Owens, on the military. Bobic is very credible when it comes to providing the reader with what President Trump actually said by quoting him from an interview that Trump had with Fox News and also providing the video on the page. Throughout this article Bobic is trying to persuade the reader that unlike previous presidents, President Trump pushed the blame on someone else rather than taking ownership of the tragedy that happened. Bobic provides different quotes from past presidents such as President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, and President Ronald Reagan to provide proof that typically, even if it wasn't necessarily their fault, the President will take sole responsibility for anything that may happen while they are in office. It is most definitely evident that Bobic believes that President Trump is wrong for blaming the military. It is also evident that his audience is mostly filled with democrats and liberals. I personally cannot say whether or not I agree or disagree with Bobic's argument. On one hand I do feel like President Trump should take blame for what has happened, but on the other hand he is not solely responsible for the death of William "Ryan" Owens. Do I think it is okay that President Trump tried to put all the blame on the military? Of course not. Tragic things happen all of the time and the blame cannot be put on one person when there are multiple factors involved.

Blog 2

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-muslim-ban-appeals-ruling_us_589b49cfe4b09bd304bf279e?While searching for a blog to write about I found one on "The Huffington Post" that discusses Donald Trump's travel ban. The article is about how a federal appeals court declined Trump's administration's executive order request to reinstate the immigration ban. It also discusses how upset Trump is over this and how he is waiting to go to court so he can get the halt on the immigration ban removed. I would recommend this article because it really opens your eyes on how the President's power is truly limited (which can be good under certain circumstances) and many people tend to forget that.
