The Defunding of Planned Parenthood (Blog 5)

"The Senate voted Thursday to let states block federal family planning money from going to Planned Parenthood affiliates and other abortion providers." (CBS News). The previous quote provides proof to the me that many news sources and people aren't looking at the bigger picture of how this could really effect millions of peoples lives. Planned Parenthood not only deals with abortions but also low-cost tests and treatments for STDs, breast exams, pap tests, and even provide educational information to help people learn more about sexual reproduction. The saddest part of it all is that most people don't know that Planned Parenthood helps not only women but men and teens as well. If Republicans would just look at the bigger picture rather than being solely concerned about abortions then they would see that Planned Parenthood is there to help everyone and not just there to "kill babies". Mike Pence broke the tie in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood and many other healthcare centers that provide affordable healthcare to a large number of people. Let me say it louder for all of the people in the back, Mike Pence, A MAN, has broke the tie in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions for WOMEN (doesn't it make sense that they should be allowed to decide what happens to THEIR OWN BODIES?). That seems to be the biggest problem with not only our national government but also society, we all think that we should have control over every single thing that people are allowed to do whether it'll effect us or not. If we really feel the need to determine everyones fate then we need to at least have people that have been through the same thing determine what's best and not someone who has absolutely no idea what it's like.

If only Mike Pence could have known about the unintended consequences of stripping funding from Planned Parenthood… Oh yeah, when Mike Pence was Governor of Indiana he defunded Planned Parenthood. In many rural counties Planned Parenthood was the only clinic that did STD testing. In the following years many of these counties had an epidemic rise in HIV and syphilis. The HIV outbreak was escalated by Governor Pence’s moral objection to needle exchange programs for intravenous drug users. Pence incorrectly believed that if drug addicts didn’t have clean needles they would simply choose not to inject drugs. The result was the biggest HIV outbreak in Indiana’s history. Not only were the drug users sharing dirty needles but with Planned Parenthood shut down many of them no longer had access to HIV testing.

I enjoy reading your blog post. I agree with the points you made about Planned
Parenthood. I do believe that it is good for Planned Parenthood should do testing for STDs and is a place for man and women to go to if they are both sexuality active. Some Republicans do see the bigger picture of the STDs testing for man and women. The main reason that most Republicans are against planned parenthood is that some of them are religious. They see that a place like Planned Parenthood is a place full of sin and devalues marriage. Some republicans think that sex is only for when you are married, and also that STDs is only caused by having sex with many people as possible.

I do like your statements about The Defunding of Planned Parenthood, and as a man I can't say anything about how a women uses her body. I have no right to do so. I have meet both sexually active, and saving your body for marriage people. I can understand why Republicans and people with huge religious values can be against Planned Parenthood. If they don't view the right of planned parenthood then they will unfunded it.
It gets hard being in places that people don't see the same way as us. Just like the city of Austin being the capital of a republican state.
