The Defunding of Planned Parenthood (Blog 5)

"The Senate voted Thursday to let states block federal family planning money from going to Planned Parenthood affiliates and other abortion providers." (CBS News). The previous quote provides proof to the me that many news sources and people aren't looking at the bigger picture of how this could really effect millions of peoples lives. Planned Parenthood not only deals with abortions but also low-cost tests and treatments for STDs, breast exams, pap tests, and even provide educational information to help people learn more about sexual reproduction. The saddest part of it all is that most people don't know that Planned Parenthood helps not only women but men and teens as well. If Republicans would just look at the bigger picture rather than being solely concerned about abortions then they would see that Planned Parenthood is there to help everyone and not just there to "kill babies". Mike Pence broke the tie in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood and many other healthcare centers that provide affordable healthcare to a large number of people. Let me say it louder for all of the people in the back, Mike Pence, A MAN, has broke the tie in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions for WOMEN (doesn't it make sense that they should be allowed to decide what happens to THEIR OWN BODIES?). That seems to be the biggest problem with not only our national government but also society, we all think that we should have control over every single thing that people are allowed to do whether it'll effect us or not. If we really feel the need to determine everyones fate then we need to at least have people that have been through the same thing determine what's best and not someone who has absolutely no idea what it's like.

Blog 4

This blog on "Think Progress" by Laurel Raymond discusses how Rep. John Shimkus argues in defense for Republicans that oppose Obamacare. His main argument is that men shouldn't have to pay for women's maternity services, such as pre-natal care. Raymond provides us with the information that before Obamacare, women had to pay more money than men for the same health coverage. She also makes a valid argument that although they are maternity services, men partake in getting women pregnant, so it is only fair that they should have to help women cover any maternity costs. It takes two to create a human being so it should also take two to keep the mother and child healthy. I am honestly not shocked at all to hear someone from the Republican party try to argue that men should not have to pay for women to have low-costing maternity services. I'm almost 100% positive that if the roles were switched and men were the one's that got pregnant they would be all for women helping with the costs of pregnancy. For crying out loud a woman cannot get pregnant on their own, so if maternity services are such a problem for men then the one's that are bitching about it better not be having sex. It is clear that Raymond is trying to reach out to those in support of shutting down Trumpcare. Raymond provides quotes from Shimkus during a hearing, so that alone shows that the information she has provided us with is credible.
